Lionsgate is expanding the John Wick Cinematic Universe. According to Deadline, the studio is tapping Len Wiseman to direct a spin-off of the franchise called Ballerina. Plots specifics are light right now but, the film will reportedly follow a young female assassin who goes on a quest for vengeance for her murdered family.
No cast information has been announced so far. There was a ballerina character that fits the description who appeared briefly in John Wick: Chapter 3. That ballerina was played by Unity Phelan, however, she hasn’t been confirmed to appear in the spin-off. Reeves could appear as well but with John Wick 4, The Matrix 4, and a possible Marvel movie in the pipeline, it’d most likely have to be a cameo role.
Wiseman is best known for creating the Underworld franchise and directing the first two films in the series. He also directed 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard. Recently, he’s directed episodes of TV series such as Hawaii 5-0, The Gifted, and Swamp Thing. He’ll be producing Ballerina alongside Reeves, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, James Myers, Kaley Smalley, and mainline series director Chad Stahelski.
Ballerina has yet to receive a release date.
