Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is set to return to Coney Island on Independence Day. As in years past, Joey Chestnut enters the competition as a massive favorite. DraftKings Sportsbook lists Chestnut as a -4000 favorite.
For those not as familiar with the world of sports and entertainment betting, a person who believes Chestnut will win once again would have to pay $4,000 to win $100. In context, Mike Tyson was a -4200 favorite heading into his infamous title bout with James Buster Douglas. As in any competition, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he could lose, but it would be a historic upset.
Chestnut is the favorite to win the 2023 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest because he sits atop the most recent Major League Eating rankings. The Kentucky native rose to prominence when he dethroned six-time defending champion Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi at the 92nd Annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Since then, he has won the competition every year since 2015. Along the way, he ate a record-high 76 hot dogs in 2021.
Joey Chestnut will look to win his 16th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest title later today in the City of Dreams. The event will be broadcast by ESPN from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. EST.
