DC fans are on the edge of their seats, not because of the recent success of the DC Extended Universe movies, but because of the volatile state it has been in over the last couple months. After receiving bad reviews from both critics and fans for Suicide Squad and Batman v. Superman, many fans we’re questioning Zach Snyder, and the direction the DC extended universe is taking. That being said, reports are that Warner Brothers and DC are set to continue their current timeline of superhero movies, and Ben Affleck’s Batman will be an integral part of the DC movie universe for years to come.
Affleck first took on the role of the caped crusader in Batman v. Superman, facing off against Henry Cavil, and was later a part of the Suicide Squad movie earlier this year. Not only is he going to reprise the role in the upcoming Justice League movie, but Warner Brothers has slated him to direct and act, his own script for a solo Batman movie. Affleck’s performance as Batman has got fans wanting more of the Dark Knight, but now he is set to face one of his biggest challenges in his career, satisfying Batman fans.

He’s done well so far, teasing the introduction of one of Batman’s biggest villains, Deathstroke, which will be played by True Blood actor, Joe Manganiello. Before appearing in the Batman movie along with Affleck, Joe Manganiello will be introduced as Deathstroke in the Justice League movie, but it seems like he is very excited to get to work with the Dark Knight. Manganiello expressed his excitement in a podcast interview with Mark Madden (transcript via Comicbooknow):
“His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is. And I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think A LOT of people are going to be really happy about.”
“It’s going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman…everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie.”
And it should be nothing less than that. Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy has set the bar and the precedent for future Batman movies, and if Ben Affleck has taken on this challenge, he better be up for it. There were rumors that the Batman script, wasn’t as good as Affleck has suggested, but at the end of the day, nothing is for certain until there is a release date. Batman is still one of the movies in the DCEU that does not have a release date tagged to it, but with the cast being recruited and a script ready, you can expect to see another Batman sooner than later.
