On Monday, November 4, 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris set up camp in the state of Pennsylvania as she made an impassioned plea to voters in the battleground state.
“The race ain’t over yet and we must finish strong,” she said.
“This could be one of the closest races in history. Every single vote matters.”
Harris’ campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, echoed the Vice President’s sentiments while speaking to reporters hours before Election Day.
“We believe this race is going to be incredibly close,” O’Malley Dillion explained.
“So, we may not know the results of this election for several days, but we are very focused on staying calm and confident throughout this period as the process goes through. And we really know that we as a campaign have a really important role to play in keeping people calm and communicating and being transparent about our process.”
Nationally, FiveThirtyEight projects Harris holds a narrow 1.2% advantage over her political foe, Donald Trump. However, the former President is either tied or leading in several battleground states, including Nevada, Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, according to FiveThirtyEight.
“It’s about as close as probably we have seen for any presidential campaign in recent American history,” Hamline University Professor David Schultz told U.S. News.
Polls have opened across much of the East Coast, with the first polls scheduled to close as early as 6 p.m. EST in parts of Kentucky and Indiana.
