
On Thursday, March 13 at approximately 6 p.m., members of the Los Angeles Police Department reportedly arrested Johnny “Jay Rock” McKinzie Jr. near Nickerson Gardens in Los Angeles, California. Shortly after the arrest, authorities told NBC 4 in Los Angeles that the GRAMMY Award-winning artist was trespassing and drinking in public. Furthermore, authorities say the Top Dawg Entertainment artist fled his vehicle, but officers caught up to him, handcuffed him and uncovered a a firearm in his vehicle.
Jay Rock nor Top Dawg Entertainment have issued a statement regarding the arrest. The Watts native signed with the West Coast imprint in 2005. As the label’s first flagship artist, he has released three albums and collaborated with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lil’ Wayne and Future. Most recently, he was reportedly working on his fourth studio album, Eastside Johnny.
Jay Rock was reportedly booked on possession of an unlicensed firearm. It is unclear if he will face additional charges pertaining to the arrest or outstanding warrants.
