Janet Jackson earns an induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. The music legend will be formally inducted in 2019.
Unlike many awards and recognitions bestowed onto celebrities, entry into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame includes fan votes.
While the nominating committee selects a group of nominees in a private process, visitors to the museum can share artists they believe deserve nominations in the future.
“In 2018 fans submitted their favorite eligible artist picks over 65,000 times” the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame reports. Five of the top ten choices earned spots on the ballot: Stevie Nicks, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Rage Against the Machine and Radiohead.
Artists become eligible when their career enters the 25 year anniversary of their first record release. From the listed nominees, the top five artists voted for by the public to create a fan’s ballot. This, tallied along with industry votes decides the artists earning induction.
Industry votes are cast from over 1,000 people including every living Rock Hall Inductee, music historians, and other artists.
