At this point, there is nothing left for Janet Jackson to prove. She has performed on every major stage and earned every significant award there is to receive in the entertainment industry. Still, there is a desire within the legendary artist to continue pushing boundaries and creating new sounds. During a recent interview with Gerrick A. Kennedy of Essence, Janet Jackson promised fans that new music would come in due time.
“You’re back on stage and performing live at ESSENCE Festival of Culture this year—but how are things going in the studio? Where are you with new music?” Kennedy asked.
“There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can’t say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There’s so much that I want to do—but my number one job is being a mama,” she answered.
Janet Jackson last released a solo album in 2015 and she released her last single as a lead artist in 2018. While she owes no one anything, new music is always welcomed from the icon. In the meantime, fans can catch her live at the ESSENCE Festival of Culture.
