Warner Bros.’ upcoming Matrix sequel is starting to get pretty interesting. Earlier this week, it was reported that Neil Patrick Harris will be joining the film in an unspecified role. And now, according to Deadline, Jada Pinkett Smith could be set to return to the franchise.
Pinkett Smith starred in the second and third Matrix films as Captain Niobe, captain of the Logos hovercraft. The actress joins fellow franchise stalwarts, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who are also set to reprise their roles in the upcoming film. And Harris isn’t the only newcomer, as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is also set to star in an unspecified role. Though, there are rumors that Mateen is going to play a younger version of Morpheus.
Lana Wachowski is set to return to direct the newest installment in the franchise. She’ll be directing off a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Grant Hill (not the former NBA star) is attached to the project as a producer.
The Matrix 4 is set to begin production early next year. A release date has yet to be announced.
