As we approach the release of J Dilla’s unreleased ’02 vocal album, The Diary, we get an exclusive to listen to in the mean time. “The Sickness” features Nas with production done by Madlib, an extraordinary lineup. Nas previewed this record back at Mass Appeal’s Live From The BBQ showcase during SxSW last month.
Earlier this year, Nas talked with Zane Lowe about the importance of this album. “I was a fan before I knew who to attach a name to,” Nas remembered. “I was like, ‘that’s the next guy I’m gonna work with.’ As I said that, the news came that he was not well… He could do records that was Janet Jackson level and still do Common, the neo-soul thing. He had all those things wrapped up in him.”
