New changes could be coming to Instagram in the near future. Reporting from Tech Crunch and social media insiders Matt Navarra and Christina Jovanna Olivarez indicates that Instagram is testing out a feature that would turn all Instagram video posts into Reels.
“We’re testing this feature as part of our efforts to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram,” a spokesperson from Meta told Tech Crunch.
A screenshot posted by Navarra outlines the potential shift. If you have a public profile and post a video that is turned into a reel, any user will be able to view your Reel and use your audio to create their own reel. Furthermore, any user will be to remix a public Reel unless the original poster turns off the feature. In contrast, videos that are turned into Reels on private profiles will only be visible to the account’s followers. In short, it will function similarly to TikTok.
Thus far, this change has only been applied to a select group of accounts. It is unclear when or if this change will be applied to all users.
