When Trent Richardson was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2012 he was supposed to help save the franchise. That didn’t happen. After being traded to the Colts in his second year as a pro he was supposed to be the Terrell Davis to Andrew Luck’s John Elway. At only 2.9 yards per carry on the season, that didn’t happen either. Now we may have seen Richardson’s last game as an Indianapolis Colt.
Richardson insisted he would eventually turn things around in Indy, however these claims never came to fruition. His role would gradually diminish this season culminating in his taking one snap during the divisional round of the playoffs and being inactive last week against the Denver Broncos. According to the Colts official website Richardson was left in Indianapolis due personal issues. However, there has been some consideration that Richardson’s reduced role and poor play were because the former first round pick was having weight issues. Although he has denied these claims, it’s still a possibility.
It’s uncertain what the future holds for Richardson but it seems like the Colts are moving into a direction that favors Daniel Herron who has 236 scrimmage yards in two playoff games. The Colts will most likely try to trade Richardson since he has one year left on his rookie contract. Despite his poor play in Indianapolis he should still draw some interest from some of the leagues lesser teams.
