Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film adaptation of In The Heights is not slated to hit theaters in the United States until Thursday evening. However, HBO Max is hoping to give moviegoers a brief preview of what they can expect. On Tuesday, the streaming platform moved to release the first eight minutes of the film on YouTube.
“Lights up on Washington Heights! The scent of a cafecito caliente hangs in the air just outside of the 181st Street subway stop, where a kaleidoscope of dreams rallies this vibrant and tight-knit community. At the intersection of it all is the likable, magnetic bodega owner Usnav, who saves every penny from his daily grind as he hopes, imagines, and sings about a better life,” HBO Max wrote about the eight-minute preview.
Releasing early scenes of major films is becoming a more common practice. Within the last few months, HBO Max has shared an early preview of Mortal Kombat and Netflix has shared an early preview of Army of the Dead.
