On Saturday, June 15, 2024, former President Donald Trump met with Black voters in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Among those who met up with the presumptive Republican nominee were Icewear Vezzo and Peezy. Shortly after meeting with the former reality show host, Peezy posted photos and a short message for his fans.
I [t]old [Donald Trump that] [i]f [w]e [c]an [b]ring [t]he [act back] [w]e [c]an [make ‘America Great Again’],” Peezy wrote.
Similarly, Icewear Veezo shared a message with his fans after meeting with the campaigning politician.
“[I] told Donald I [m]ade the 6 great again,” he wrote.
“[I]n all seriousness, everyone [is] not gonna agree with this picture, but we don’t all have to agree on everything. I just know not many of us will ever have the chance to really speak up for us and address how we may really feel, so I stepped out on faith. I didn’t meet him as a rapper. I met him as a man and a father who understands the only way to attempt to change things is to address things.”
Not long thereafter, the comment section of Icewear Vezzo’s latest post were filled with critical messages.
“N—s will turn white for clout. [Tupac] would never. [Tupac] was an actual revolutionary in the streets for his [people] and [these are] the rappers we are f—g stuck with. N—s [are] supporting Trump. It’s actually literally mind blowing,” one comment reads.
“I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. You’re seemingly endorsing a man that couldn’t care any less about us, has been openly disrespectful to many people, and has stirred up a lot of racially charged drama,” another comment reads.
Icewear Vezzo hasn’t openly endorsed former President Donald Trump, but he has been critical of his political rival, President Joe Biden. During a conversation with Andre Gee of Rolling Stone in February, the Michigan artist expressed his dissatisfaction with Biden’s involvement in the 1994 Crime Bill.
“The 1994 Crime Bill. You know who drafted that?” he asked Gee.
“Biden,” Gee replied.
“Exactly. We pay attention to that. There was a mass incarceration of Black Americans. We see things like that and [our dissatisfaction with Biden] is not about ‘We got money [from Trump].’ A lot of people think we completely support Donald Trump…We just believe in holding everybody accountable. It’s not fair to us to be told to believe that only one guy’s making mistakes, [and] only one guy is [making] smart decisions. They both got flaws.”
Meanwhile, his counterpart, Peezy, has openly said, “F—k Joe Biden.” A few weeks after Icewear Vezzo was featured in Gee’s Rolling Story story, Peezy openly expressed his support for the former President.
“I’m tying to find my n—a Donald Trump’s gym shoes, man,” the Detroit rapper said.
“The Trump 1s, man. If anybody got them b—s in [a size] 13, call me. F—k Joe Biden, I’m rocking with Trump. F—k Kamala Harris, I rock with Trump. Free Trump! Free Big Slime! If you got the motherf—g gold 1s, call me! I want them right now!”
Icewear Vezzo and Peezy are far from the first artist to express concerns about President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign or pose for a photo alongside his opponent. Most recently, Sleepy Hallow and Sheff G stood side-by-side with the New York native at a rally in the Bronx. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Sexyy Redd have also applauded some of Trump’s political aims. Not to be forgotten, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, developed a public relationship with the recently convicted candidate during his time in office before it reportedly dissolved after a dinner in 2022.
