A new generation is about to learn how to defend their house from intruders if they’re left home alone during a family holiday. According to Variety, Disney has cast Archie Yates as the lead in its upcoming Home Alone reboot. Alongside the young actor, Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney were also cast as Yates’ parents.
Apparently, Yates and co will not be portraying an updated version of the McCallisters, who were the focus of the original film(s). Instead, the reboot will be a modern take on the classic film following a brand new family. The original Home Alone told the story of Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, after he was accidentally left at home by his family when they went on a holiday trip. McCallister is then forced to protect his home from intruders using only his wit and resourcefulness. At this point, it’s unknown how much the reboot will borrow from the original’s plot.
Yates is coming off a breakout role in Taika Waititi’s Golden-Globe-nominated Jojo Rabbit. Kemper recently wrapped filming on a special for her Netflix series, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She also recently voiced a character in The Secret Life of Pets 2. Delaney has had a pretty big year so far with roles in Hobbs & Shaw and Last Christmas; he’s also set to appear in the Fox News drama Bombshell later this month. Those three are the only actors attached to the project so far.
Disney’s Home Alone reboot has yet to receive a release date, though it is expected to release exclusively on Disney+.
