Ahead of awards season, HBO has reclassified Watchmen as a limited series. Previously, the premium cable network designated the series as a drama series. Since the show’s first season ended in late 2019, it has been unclear whether or not the show will return for a second season despite rave reviews. While the designation of limited series does not lend itself to a long run, HBO has listed the show as a limited series with “possible future installments.”
Watchmen executive producer Damon Lindelof said, “Right now the space that HBO is in and that I’m in is we’re asking the question, Should there be another season of Watchmen?”
“And if there should be another season, what would it be? I’m not saying I don’t want to do it, or it shouldn’t exist. I’m just saying, ‘Boy, every idea that I had went into this season of Watchmen,'” he added.
“We discussed with the producers and felt limited series was the most accurate representation of the show and any possible future installments,” HBO stated.
Only time will tell what is next for the HBO drama.
