One Direction’s heading under the sea. Well, not all of them but, Harry Styles definitely might be. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor/singer is in talks to join Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid as Prince Eric.
Disney has been ‘casting’ their net wide recently as they search for actors to fill out the iconic characters. Right now, only Melissa McCarthy and Halle Bailey are attached officially. The two women are playing Ursula and Ariel, respectively. Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are both finalizing deals to join the film as Flounder and Scuttle, respectively. There are also hopes from fans that either Idris Elba or Terry Crews will be called in to play Ariel’s father, King Triton. Crews has even been campaigning for the role himself on Twitter.
Styles is best known as a former member of the boy band sensation, One Direction. Since leaving the group though, Styles has tried to break into acting. He scored his first role on-screen in Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic, Dunkirk. The film had a broad scope so Styles wasn’t necessarily the main focus but his performance drew praise from critics and audiences alike. He was also in the running to play Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic but, ultimately that role went to Austin Butler.
The Little Mermaid is still in pre-production without an official release date yet.
