Halle Bailey lands leading role in Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of animated film Little Mermaid starring as Princess Ariel.
One half of R&B duet Chloe x Halle, both sister’s talent extends beyond vocal performance. The pair both star on Freeform’s Grown-ish, a spin-off of hit sitcom Black-ish. Halle enters the Disney universe with the announcement of the new role.
Variety reports director Rob Marshall sourced talent for months however Halle Bailey remained a front runner for the classic role.
“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” Marshall said in a statement.
