Grizzlies Defeat Spurs In Thrilling Fashion

After a big, emotional game in which the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Golden State Warriors, they traveled to San Antonio to take on the defending champion San Antonio Spurs. In a thriller, the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the San Antonio Spurs 117-116 in triple overtime after blowing a 23 point lead.

Marc Gasol scored 26 points, including a banked-in 3-pointer as regulation expired while also grabbing 9 rebounds. Zach Randolph had 21 points and 21 rebounds in the Vince Carter added a season-high 18 points for Memphis off the bench. Mike Conley had 14 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds. Courtney Lee score 14 points and Kosta Koufos came off the bench for 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Danny Green scored 25 points on 7-13 shooting from three point range to go along with his 7 rebounds and 5 blocks on the night. Tim Duncan had 23 points and 16 rebounds and Timmy’s jumper rattled in to force the third OT, but he finished just 5 for 15 on free throws on the night, including missing a few down the stretch. Manu Ginobili added 21 points, but shot an airball on a 3-point attempt in the final seconds in the third overtime for the Spurs. San Antonio made a season-high 17, 3-pointers but was 13 for 27 on free throws on the night, including the horrible 5 for 15 by Duncan. Boris Diaw had 17 points with 13 rebounds and Marco Belinelli had 15 points joining Diaw off the bench.

After Green’s fifth 3-pointer gave San Antonio a 92-89 lead with 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation, Gasol banked in an amazing 30-footer passed Ginobili as time expired.

Conley’s 3-pointer gave Memphis a 111-109 lead with 2.6 seconds left in the second overtime before Duncan’s shot that finally fell in.

Duncan hit a fallaway, high-arcing jump shot that bounced on the rim about 3 times before it dropped in to tie the game at 111 at the end of the second overtime.

Then the Grizzlies held on to win in the third overtime.

Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard sat for the Spurs.

Grizzlies’ achieved their sixth straight victory.

Memphis Grizzlies are 21-4. San Antonio Spurs are 17-9.
