The Brooklyn Nets reportedly view San Antonio Spurs legendary head coach Gregg Popovich as their “dream candidate” to fill their coaching vacancy. As reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Popovich would be the ideal choice of Sean Marks and the Nets front office.

Popovich recently had his streak of 22 years in the playoffs with the Spurs snapped, as the Spurs finished the season with a record of 32-39, 11th place in the Western Conference. Popovich has accumulated a regular season record of 1,277-614 in his illustrious career, as well as five NBA championships.
The Nets fired head coach Kenny Atkinson in March following a disappointing season. Brooklyn has since had Jacque Vaughan serving as interim head coach through the restart, with the team also linked to Jason Kidd and Jeff Van Gundy. The Nets were recently eliminated from the playoffs, losing in a 4-0 sweep to the Toronto Raptors in the opening round.
The top priority for the Nets will be bringing in a coach that will maximize the potential of the superstar duo of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, who moved to Brooklyn as free agents in last year’s offseason period.
