Months after leading her team to success in Tokyo at the 2021 Summer Olympic Games, Ginny Fuchs has announced that she will turn pro. Training at Baby Bull Boxing Academy in Houston, Fuchs will begin her career at flyweight. However, the date for her professional debut has not been revealed.
Fuchs picked up boxing as a college student at Louisiana State University. Over the next decade, Fuchs built up an amateur record of 88-22 with three knockouts. Despite her success, she missed out on a chance to represent the U.S. at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Fortunately, she rebounded in 2021 to represent the country in Tokyo last summer.
“I was still considering turning pro, but me and my coach talked about it and my first goal and dream was to go to the Olympics and be an Olympian and win gold and as a female boxer, we thought it would be better anyways to go to the Olympics before I turned pro,” Fuchs told ESPN.
“So we’re like, all right, we’ll go to Tokyo. I know I’ll make it, and then I’ll turn pro.”
Fuchs is not the only one of her Olympic teammates to compete at the pro level since leaving Tokyo. Keyshawn Davis and Richard Torrez Jr. have both signed deals with Top Rank this fall.
