2020 has been a tough year for everyone. Beginning with the untimely deaths of Juice WRLD, Kobe Bryant and Pop Smoke, this year has been filled with sadness and despair. Not to mention, there’s a pandemic going on and Black folks are still being killed in the streets. With all of that going on, it’s easy to see why someone would want to escape to a different year. This Friday, Gashi did just that when he dropped his new album, 1984.
Gashi’s new project is a tribute to a year that has inspired his creative process as of late. From the visuals to the music to the merch, this new project is a time capsule in many ways.
“I wasn’t alive during that decade, but I connect so much with everything from that era. I love everything about 80s culture from the music to the films to the fashion and I always wished I could have experienced that time in history,” he said about his new album.
“My parents got married in 1984 and some of the greatest music ever made came from the 80s. I just wanted to make music that made people feel the way I feel when I hear anything from that era,”
1984 allows you to grasp that much needed escape from 2020. Check out the full project above.
