At times, friendly pressure can be positive. Not long ago, Hot 97’s Funkmaster Flex challenged Raekwon and Ghostface Killah to record a song together with “no features.”
“I challenge Raekwon and Ghostface to get me a joint,” he said.
“I know you guys are rich. You’re doing a lot of shows. I look at your jewelry game, car game and I understand. The Wu-Tang tour is going on. I think you should record it in Staten Island. It’s just a request.”
Never one to back away from a challenge, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah delivered a new track, complete with Scram Jones production. Unfortunately, Funkmaster Flex says that the track is “never going to be on Apple [Music] or Spotify.” As a result, it can only be heard via radio recordings.
After debuting the record, Funkmaster Flex issued another challenge to a legendary New York figure. According to the Hot 97 DJ, Swizz Beatz has several unreleased DMX tracks and he would like to get his hands on one of them.
“I heard that there are several unreleased, never-coming-out DMX songs,” he said.
“Swizz Beatz does not know that I know because someone ratted on you, Swizz. Swizz Beatz has several unreleased DMX songs. Swizz Beatz, I challenge you.”
Swizz Beatz has not responded to Funkmaster Flex’s recent request, but there is a new Ghostface Killah and Raekwon track waiting in the meantime. Check it out below.
