Researchers at John Hopkins University have put forth data that outlines a recent spike in new COVID-19 cases. In 48 states, the number of new coronavirus cases has increased by at least 10% within the last week. Of those 48 states, 34 of them have seen an increase of at least 50%. Moving forward, health experts are predicting that more mask mandates will be reintroduced and certain lockdown measures may be implemented.
“More mitigation is coming. Whether it’s masking, or whether it’s closures or whether it’s your kids having to return to virtual learning, that is coming,” Dr. Jerome Adams said during a recent episode of Face The Nation on CBS.
“And it’s coming because this pandemic is spiraling out of control yet again. And it’s spiraling out of control because we don’t have enough people vaccinated.”
Thus far, 49% of the U.S. population has been fully vaccinated against coronavirus. However, health experts do not believe that figure is high enough to protect residents from the spreading virus. As a result, a number of organizations are introducing measures to encourage people to get vaccinated.
Recently, President Joe Biden announced that federal employees that do not receive a COVID-19 vaccine will be subjected to increase testing. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has also introduced similar measures. Beyond politics, Google has announced that all employees returning to the office this fall must be vaccinated and Facebook is implemented similar regulations.
“You get the FDA to say it’s final, it’s approved, and I can guarantee you all the places I’m involved in, if you don’t get vaccinated you will get fired,” Billionaire business owner Ken Langone said.
“You have an obligation to your fellow man to protect him as well as yourself.”
