Social media giant Meta is reportedly developing a plan that would allow Facebook and Instagram users to share, display, create and even sell NFTs. According to a report from the Financial Times, plans are still at an an “early stage and could yet change.” With that said, Meta’s entrance into the NFT market would come with little surprise.
In October, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the company will support the “ownership of digital goods or NFTs.” Two months later, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said his platform was “actively exploring” the NFT market.
“Nothing to announce yet, but we are definitely actively exploring NFTs and how we can make them more accessible to a wider audience. I think it’s an interesting place that we can play…and also a way to hopefully help creators,” Mosseri said, according to Yahoo! Finance.
If Meta’s two platforms, Facebook and Instagram, enter the NFT marketplace, social media giants like TikTok, Twitter, Snapchat, Reddit and Discord could follow soon thereafter.
