Erykah Badu has landed her next role in a feature film. The legendary singer will reportedly appear in Netflix’s The Piano Lesson alongside John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson. It is unclear what her role in the film will be, but multiple reports indicate that it will be limited.
“Set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression, The Piano Lesson follows the lives of the Charles family, a household led by Doaker Charles, and an heirloom, the family piano, which is decorated with designs carved by an enslaved ancestor,” a description of the August Wilson-inspired screenplay reads.
Thus far, Washington is set to play the role of Doaker’s nephew, Boy Willie. Meanwhile, Jackson has taken on the role of Doaker Charles. Both men have experience in these roles as they appeared in the Tony-nominated revival of the August Wilson play on Broadway.
Supporting the Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s work, Ray Fisher, Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Potts and Corey Hawkins are set to appear in the film. Behind the camera, Denzel Washington, Todd Black, Constanza Romero, Jennifer Roth and Katia Washington are working as producers. At this time, there is no word as to when the film will arrive on the streaming platform.
