Well, that escalated quickly. Back in March, Politico reported that Eric Adams would be included along with 50 other prominent politicians as a member of President Joe Biden’s National Advisory Board heading into the upcoming election. However, the board and its members were announced formally on Wednesday and Adams was not included alongside Elizabeth Warren, Karen Bass, Cory Booker and others. Several political insiders have reportedly pointed toward the mayor’s recent comments regarding the Biden administration’s handling of asylum seekers as the reason for his absence on the board. Specifically, Adams said the President has “failed” New York in regard to his immigration policy.
“This is one of the largest humanitarian crises this city has ever experienced. It will impact every service in this city. Why isn’t every elected official in Washington, D.C. asking the national government, ‘Why are you doing this to New York?’ The national government has turned its back on New York City,” Adams said last month.
“We’re here today telling the White House we have been extremely patient; we’ve allowed the coordination of all of our agencies to come together to deal with this response…This is in the lap of the president of the United States…The president of the United States can give us the ability to allow people to work. This is in the lap of the executive branch, and that’s what we’re calling for.”
Biden hasn’t publicly combated Adams, but a Democratic aide tells Politico that the relationship between the two has “soured.” When asked about the matter specifically, a spokesperson for Adams is happy to “help the president with reelection.”
