Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to share her displeasure with CNN’s handling of a town hall featuring former President Donald Trump. In a series of tweets, congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez said the network should be “ashamed” of itself for how the event was conducted.
“CNN should be ashamed of [itself]. They have lost total control of this “town hall” to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
“This falls squarely on CNN. Everyone here saw exactly what was going to happen. Instead they put a sexual abuse victim in harm’s way for views. This was a choice to platform lies about the election & Jan 6th w/ no plan but to have their moderator interrupted without consequence.”
Ocasio-Cortez was far from the only viewer to express their dismay with CNN’s town hall. Throughout the night, the former President mocked former columnist E. Jean Carroll and refused to commit to accepting the results of the upcoming presidential election.
“Trump is mocking Carroll and the sexual abuse he was just found liable for, calling it ‘hanky panky’, and the audience is laughing. Disgusting stuff. Hope CNN bosses are proud,” Mehdi Hasan of MSNBC tweeted.
“America, this cable news network don’t have our best interests. Now they are going to over-analyze his lies all night,” Ernest Owens of Philly Magazine added.
