As DWY nears the release of his forthcoming project, Self-Contained, the South London artist has debuted his latest single, “Badu Feels.” From overcast mornings to pool parties and moonlit dinners with friends, the smokey single walks listeners through a perfect summer day in the life of an emerging songwriter making his dreams come true. Along the way, DWY opens up about some of the lower moments and saddening thoughts that occupy his mind when he’s not enjoying a perfect summer day with those he cares about.
“I been at home with Badu feels/When did adulting get so real/I’m so tired of my own reflection/WIFIs out I need some new connections,” he sings.
“So low the blunt can’t get me high/Solo, I’m dolo, no fight in my dojo/I miss the movies/And I miss my best friends/I miss the parties I hated to be at.”
The duality of the chorus and the two verses showcase the vulnerability that watermarks much of DWY’s music. “Badu Feels” is both depressing at times and euphoric at others. Few artists have the ability to make a listener feel a complete spectrum of emotions in a way that he can. The dynamic nature of his music only intensifies the wait for his forthcoming project, Self-Contained. While we wait for it to arrive in its entirety, check out the “Badu Feels” video.
