The Childhood version of me is screaming somewhere in a Krispy Kreme, hearing about this news. DC and Warner Brothers announced over the weekend at the New York Comic Con that the beloved Batman animated show, ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ (Let’s call it Batman TAS for simplicity sake) will finally be releasing a Blu-Ray version in 2018. The show first debuted in 1992, which makes it 25 years since the release of the very first episode of the epic 2 season show. Batman TAS was the first animated version of the character that had less of a cartoon style and more of a noir element, added to the caped crusader, Bruce Wayne. Batman TAS also took full advantage of the characters villain catalogue, including introducing one of the most popular DC characters today, Harley Quinn. Quinn actually appeared in the show as one of Joker’s allies, before a comic book version of her was made, giving us some unforgettable moments in the show (Via Screen Rant):
Along with Harley Quinn, the Joker (voiced by the amazing Mark Hamill) really established himself clear as Batman’s arch-nemesis throughout the entirety of the animated series.
There is no indication as to what the format for release is yet, but they have confirmed that the Blu-Ray will release in 2018. From a marketing standpoint, Batman is one of the most popular and iconic superhero’s in the world and Warner Brothers and DC have kept this in mind. With the commercial success of such a character, they’ve planned movies and animated series around him for the past 20 years and it doesn’t look like they’re planning to stop. Well don’t let me stop what you’re doing DC. More Animated shows please.
