Following the release of his EP “4L“, Long Island rapper Dontaé drops Reality Check with an accompanying visual.
Dontaé hopes listeners not only enjoy the new song but understand the theme behind the music. Heavy on lyrics and bass, Dontaé uses Reality Check to describe his own personal growth and life changes on his quest to the top.
“Reality Check is a very introspective record and a reflection of my growth as an artist. I’ve felt like the underdog my whole life, so this song’s message is to never allow anyone to count you out. Always go for yours, one way or another.” he tells Def Pen.
As far as this song goes, Dontaé says Reality Check has similarities to his latest release, the EP “4L”. In fact, the song was created before the EP laying the groundwork for the project. Dontaé tells us “4L was the continuation of that same concept and it really inspired me through the last couple of months as I was creating Heat Check.”
The cinematic visuals directed by PHIL, follow Dontaé and his Valley Boyz crew through a high-speed chase. Having the Valley Boyz co-star in the video was a given.
“I have a great dynamic with each of the Valley Boyz. They’re creatives in their own respective fields, whether it’s fashion, graphic design, photography, or music. We’re a group of leaders who continuously challenge one another.” says Dontaé
Reality Check comes as just a hint of the direction Dontaé takes, standing as the lead single from upcoming project Heat Check. We can expect more from Dontaé as the rapper tells us he has been cooking up a whole lot of new music over the past year, speaking his truth, in his own words, in his own way.
” I have a new EP, Heat Check, on the way. And, if you ask me I’m going for a three peat as far as projects are concerned. More visuals and music should be anticipated. And, I’m opening up the door to my world. So, it should be a fun ride. It’s only the beginning.”
