It’s official, Disney has purchased 20th Century Fox for $52.4 billion. The deal has been discussed off and on for a few weeks now but it ultimately got done in near record time. When the news broke that this was potentially going to happen fanboys around the world held their collective breath. Seeing as 20th Century Fox owned the rights to the few Marvel properties that had yet to make their way into the MCU in someway, shape or form.
According to the press release issued by Disney, one of the main selling points of the deal was, “The agreement also provides Disney with the opportunity to reunite the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool with the Marvel family under one roof and create richer, more complex worlds of inter-related characters and stories that audiences have shown they love”. Plans to unify the universes should move swiftly, but it remains to be seen whether or not Disney will scrap the existing universes and start fresh or lump the existing X-Men universe in with the MCU. Though, I’m sure Kevin Feige and company have many contingency plans in place just in case this did ever happen.
