New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose is still being questioned to this very day for confidently referring to his new team as a “super-team” back in July.
In the eyes of most fans, the term “super-team” should only be used when discussing teams such as the Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Cavaliers, two clubs that sport multiple All-Stars on its roster.
For Derrick Rose, his opinion on the subject hasn’t changed in the least despite facing a plethora of criticism from opposing teams’ fans throughout the summer.
“I still believe that”, Rose said. “Like I said with that ‘superteam’ term, you gotta be very careful I guess if you’re in the United States.”
Rose refused to take back anything that was previously said, still speaking with high confidence on the matter.
“I feel like if you’re on any team in the NBA, it doesn’t even have to be in the NBA. It could be college level or high school level. You should believe in yourself and have the confidence in yourself that you’re playing on a super-team anywhere.
“I have a lot of confidence and I’m not taking that back”.
Rose, 27, simply refuses to allow his critics to change his mindset on the upcoming season. Rose believes the Knicks, who will likely sport one of the league’s top starting lineups, will be one of the NBA’s best teams next season.
“We have to go in and prove something”, Rose continued. “All of us want to prove something. Bringing a group like this together can be very dangerous if we all come together the right way”.
One interesting tidbit in the video came when Rose began listing off key players on the Knicks 2016-’17 roster, naming Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, Courtney Lee, Joakim Noah, Brandon Jennings, and free agent Kevin Seraphin.
Seraphin, an unrestricted free agent who appeared in 48 contests with the Knicks last season, is not under contract to return with the Knicks next season. Seraphin had hopes of re-signing with the Knicks when free agency began, but things didn’t go exactly as planned. The interest was indeed mutual, and Phil Jackson intended on inking him to a new deal.
After a series of expensive moves during free agency’s first week, the Knicks found themselves in a hole. Unable to offer Seraphin a good enough deal to pique his interest, Seraphin began holding free agent meetings with clubs overseas.
As July was coming to a close, Barcelona was nearing an agreement with the six-year veteran center Seraphin. Talks broke off, and now Seraphin remains un-signed just over one month from the start of camp.
Perhaps Derrick Rose knows something the rest of us don’t, or perhaps it was a simple mistake on Rose’s part. Seraphin has his options, some of which are outside of the NBA, and will likely be signed to a team before October arrives.
New York’s starting point guard certainly seems interested in adding Seraphin to his new super-team.
