The world of combat sports has produced a number of upsets this year. In the UFC, Leon Edwards shocked Kamaru Usman to win the welterweight title and Alex Pereira dethroned Israel Adesanya. Elsewhere, Larissa Pacheco stunned Kayla Harrison and earned a unanimous decision victory at the 2023 PFL Championships. Not to be forgotten, Hector Garcia upset super featherweight contender Chris Colbert to earn a shot at the title. Tonight, another man by the name of David Avanesyan hopes to put all of those upsets to shame and capture the WBO Welterweight Championship.
On December 10, David Avanesyan will head into Terence Crawford’s hometown of Omaha, Nebraska and attempt to strip him of his undefeated record and WBO Welterweight Championship. While Avanesyan is an experienced boxer, he will enter CHI Health Center with the odds stacked against him. DraftKings currently lists him as a +700 underdog, but he is confident that he will succeed.
“I’ve knocked out my last six opponents,” Avanesyan told Boxing Scene.
“There is [a] one [hundred] percent chance Terence Crawford will be my seventh knockout in a row.”
Avanesyan will not surprise Crawford on fight night. Throughout the week, he has assured fans that he will not overlook the experienced challenger.
“David Avanesyan is a good fighter. He’s on a good winning streak, and beat a guy in the U.K., in Josh Kelly who people thought was going to be a star,” Crawford said, per Bad Left Hook.
“I have to train like I am facing King Kong on December 10th, because Avanesyan has everything to gain and nothing to lose. I know he is going to bring everything on December 10th, so I’m not looking past him.”
Crawford and Avanesyan will meet at CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska on December 10 at 5:30 p.m. on BLK Prime.
