In his latest effort, D Smoke reenacts James Baldwin and Nikki Giovanni’s classic 1971 encounter for the “Rapture” video. Much like the song, the video works to highlight the importance and value of Black women in society. In a world without Black women, Black men struggle to maintain society on their own.
“Imagine a day without women/I bet your first thought was Who ’bout to take care of the children?/That’s just like us, placin’ all of their value in rearin’,” he raps.
“Life served me hard lessons/Just keep in mind this season time ends/The womb is where all life begins, no world without women,” he adds.
