David Simon, the creator of The Wire, is currently working with Spain’s Mediapro on a new series. Currently titled A Dry Run, the series will follow the Abraham Lincoln Battalion who went to Spain during the Spanish Civil War.
Simon has tapped George Pelecanos and Dennis Lehane, of The Wire, to write the show. The scripts have been outlined to form a six-hour miniseries but that could change according to a representative for Mediapro
Simon and Mediapro are currently searching for funding in both in the U.S. and Europe.
A Dry Run will follow the Abraham Lincoln and George Washington Battalions, both part of the International Brigade that fought in the Spanish Civil War, from their arrival in 1937 and first bloody battle in the Jarama Valley until their departure in 1939.
Simon is currently working on the second season of his HBO show, The Deuce. It is likely that he would like to continue working with HBO on this series considering his history with the company, however, that is still up in the air.
No word on when production will begin in earnest or if the show has been officially picked up.
