It appears that 2019 will be the year of sequels and reviving classic franchises. Coming off a year that brought us a Creed sequel and a remake of A Star Is Born, the future plans to bring us a Bad Boys reboot and a Men In Black sequel. With all of those films in the making, one film definitely stands out above the rest. According to a recent report, an official Coming To America sequel is in the making. Yes, you read that correctly. Thirty years after the release of the original, Coming To America II is officially in the works.
Initial reports indicate that Eddie Murphy will return to star in the film. In addition, the film’s script will be written by Kenya Barris of Black-ish and the motion picture will be directed by Craig Brewer of Hustle & Flow. After the film was announced, Eddie Murphy issued a statement that read, “After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward.” He also stated, “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
The film has no projected release date, but it will be developed and distributed by Paramount Pictures.
