Michael, the feature film chronicling the life and legacy of Michael Jackson, won’t hit theaters until the fall. However, that won’t stop interested parties from extracting as much detail as they can in anticipation of the film’s release. During a recent conversation with Lynn Hirschberg of W Magazine, Colman Domingo revealed a few more details regarding his role in the film. Domingo, playing Joe Jackson, says he does not “look like [himself]” in the feature film.
“My skin is lighter because Joe was a bit more fair-skinned. I had prosthetics on top of my head above my eye, and my nose is different,” Domingo explained.
Domingo will play the role of Joe Jackson alongside Nia Long’s Katherine Jackson. In addition to transforming his physical features, Domingo also adjusted his clothing and style to mirror Joe Jackson’s persona throughout all phases of his adulthood.
“We really leaned into the different periods of Joe, where he was a little bit younger and slicker and a bit more of the hustle,” Domingo continued.
“And then when he started to have his little pooch, I needed that pooch. And the pants were riding right underneath, like all the men that I know that wear their bellies proud.”
Michael, starring Jaafar Jackson and Juliano Krue, will debut in theaters on October 3, 2025.
