Get your flippers ready folks. According to Deadline, Colin Farrell is in final talks to join Matt Reeves’ The Batman as the classic villain, the Penguin. Jonah Hill was previously in talks for that role but reportedly walked away last month.
Farrell has a long pedigree of playing some memorable movie villains. He played the villain Bullseye, who was the best thing about the 2003 Daredevil movie Ben Affleck wants everyone to forget about. Farrell also appeared as Percival Graves, the villain in the first Fantastic Beasts film. Sadly, he was replaced by Johnny Depp at the end of that film when it was revealed that his character was just disguising himself as Graves.
If he joins The Batman, Farrell would be starring opposite Robert Pattinson and Jeffrey Wright, who are set to star as Batman and Commissioner Gordon, respectively. He’d likely be working alongside Paul Dano, who was recently cast as The Riddler, in some capacity but the plot is being kept mostly under wraps for now. Zoë Kravitz is also set to star in the film as Selina Kyle/Catwoman but, we don’t know whether she’ll be working with or against Batman yet.
The Batman is set to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
