New Florida Gators Head Coach Todd Golden got good news with the announcement that Colin Castleton would return for a fifth season. Players that participated in the 2020-21 NCAA season were all granted an extra year of eligibility due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Castleton played two seasons with the Michigan Wolverines before transferring to the Florida Gators where he also played two seasons. The Florida native is staying with the Gators despite the head coaching change that took place this offseason. He also decided not to take the potential professional route.

Colin Castleton was a top player for the Florida Gators as a senior, averaging 16.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game. He led the team in points per game, rebounds per game, and blocks per game. The senior big man paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 54.6 percent and a free throw percentage of 70.3 percent. He was an anchor for the Florida Gators roster under Head Coach Mike White and now he will help Head Coach Todd Golden establish a new era.

Now that college players can profit off of NIL deals this type of thing may happen more often with beloved upperclassmen. Colin Castleton has a chance to play with the Gators for one more season and then he can still go play professionally somewhere if he chooses to do that. The Gators get some much-needed stability down low in a transition period with a new coaching staff.
