The Kentucky Wildcats received some bad news with the announcement that Iowa Hawkeye’s transfer CJ Fredrick underwent surgery for a broken leg. There is currently no timetable for his return, but it seems unlikely he will be ready for the start of the season. Fredrick has missed games in each of his previous two seasons with Iowa due to leg or foot injuries. The timing is unfortunate because it seemed like he was finally healthy are ready to contribute to his new program.

Kentucky has added several talented transfers this offseason and Fredrick was one of those additions. The sharpshooter was expected to be a key part of Head Coach John Calipari’s offense this season. While his timetable to return is currently unknown he should be able to return sometime this season barring any complications. While dealing with an injury his sophomore year at Iowa his numbers were down from his freshman year. He averaged 7.5 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game last year for Iowa. It was clear that he was hurt most of the year and wasn’t quite himself.
Earlier this year Fredrick opened up about last year’s injury-riddled season. “I had a really tough injury this past year, it was just something really naggy. I had plantar fasciitis in my left foot and it mentally and physically took a lot out of me. Waking up in the morning trying to take a step and I’m kinda collapsing. That’s tough. I’m trying to practice then play. It took a lot out of me mentally. Just being in the training room all day.” It is unfortunate that he got hurt again, but hopefully, he can return and provide some production for the Wildcats.
