The Texas Longhorns have fired Head Coach Chris Beard following his arrest and charges of felony domestic violence. Texas suspended the Head Coach indefinitely on December 12th following the arrest. According to the university, Beard was fired for cause and will not be entitled to any of his salary or buyout money. He was signed to a seven-year deal worth $35 million. Beard has been accused of strangling, biting, and assaulting his fiancee in their home. After nearly a month of speculation, the University announced the decision to fire him on Thursday.

Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte said the following in a statement about the move to fire Head Coach Chris Beard: “The University of Texas has parted ways with Chris Beard, this has been a difficult situation that we’ve been diligently working through. Today I informed Mr. Beard of our decision to terminate him effective immediately. “We thank Coach Rodney Terry for his exemplary leadership both on and off the court at a time when our team needed it most. We are grateful he will remain the acting head coach for the remainder of the season. We are proud of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, who throughout this difficult time have continued to make us proud to be Longhorns.”
It is likely more information comes out about this situation and why the school decided to fire him at this time. We here at Def Pen Sports will update the story when that happens.
