“Look at that! I’ve come too far. There’s no looking back.”
The tone of Chelsea Pastel’s latest single, “Greener,” is set within the first ten seconds. Raised in The Forest City, the emerging storyteller has taken her talents everywhere from WKYC to BET while picking up a co-sign from fellow Ohio native, Kid Cudi. While some unnamed record executives may say that she’s only gained traction via social media because people “felt bad” for her, those who have been watching know that she’s continuously improved from the days of “Let Me Live” to the release of “Whiplash” with O.G. Parker.
“I was too busy making tracks. That sh*t paid off. I’ve got a lot of cash. I’m about to spend it fast. I’m not poor anymore,” she raps.
“Greener” is the latest showcase of Chelsea Pastel’s growing potential. Not only does she float over the unconventional production from Cassius G as she talks about all that she’s accomplished, but she also delivers relatable commentary about the challenges that many face as they chase their dreams like she has.
“I feel like the world needs more fun and more hugs. It’s been two years in the dark with no sun. [It’s] just shots and blue gloves, and white masks, and more guns and inflation,” she raps.
Th? babies ain’t got no food. The kids ain’t safe at school. Th? rent [is] too high [and] we can’t move. And gas [is] going up, so we all gotta car pool. What we gone do? We can do our best. [We] can’t get stressed cuz the world is a mess.”
Backed by the unique production of Cassius G, Chelsea Pastel’s “Greener” is the perfect blend of an MC talking their sh*t and providing commentary on the world around them. Check out the visual for the track below.
