Charlie’s Angels haven’t had the best track record over the last decade or so. A few reboots have been tried on both the big and small screen but nothing’s stuck the landing quite yet. Well, the Angels are back again in the first trailer for Elizabeth Banks’ take on the classic spy series. Banks is best known as an actress but in recent years has been looking more towards directing. Her first feature, Pitch Perfect 2 was well-received by audiences and critics alike and impressed Sony so much that they handed her the keys to the Angels franchise.
And, based on the trailer, I think they made the right choice. The action we see in the trailer is on par with 2017’s fantastically shot and choreographed, Atomic Blonde, and the entire tone seems to be emulating spy movies of the last 5 or 6 years. Honestly, a lot of the trailer seems like they’re going for Kingsman but with all females, and I’m here for it. Along with directing, Banks is also set to star in the film alongside Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. Both Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou have parts in the film, though sadly neither is playing the titular Charlie. Twitter’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Noah Centineo is also set to appear in the film and even gets a small moment to shine in the trailer.
