“I felt good. I was in shape. I could have gone 15 rounds, easy,” Ennis said after the fight.
“If he thinks that performance was off, the world of boxing ought to be very, very afraid,” his promoter, Eddie Hearn, added.
As it turns out, someone in the world of boxing doesn’t appear to be “very, very afraid.” After the fight ended, former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford shared his thoughts via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“World class fighter now, hun[?] My the double standards be crazy!!! Eddie Hearn, you talk good,” he commented.
“[H]e beat him faster than u did,” one fan replied.
“Lol,” Crawford answered.
Crawford has shared the ring with Avanesyan before. On Saturday, December 10, 2022, Crawford stopped the world title challenger in the sixth round. Through nearly six full rounds, Crawford landed 80 of 602 punches while Avanesyan landed 48 of 276 punches. In comparison, Ennis landed 152 of 327 punches while Avanesyan landed 53 of 225 punches. With that said, there are many other factors to consider when evaluating each fighter’s performance against the title challenger, including style, pace and game plan. Not to mention, Avanesyan is nearly two years older and coming in to fight Ennis on a month’s notice. Simply put, Crawford and Ennis will just have to get in the ring to settle their dispute. Until then, Crawford will set up to fight Israil Madrimov for the WBA Super Welterweight Championship on Saturday, August 3 in Los Angeles.
