New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony hasn’t played against NBA level competition since he played in the all-star game at Madison Square Garden in February. Shortly after, Anthony underwent knee surgery which shut him down for the rest of the season. Melo has been rehabbing his knee since and is getting closer and closer to 100% everyday. Now we know the next time we’ll see Carmelo on the court, at Team USA Mini-Camp next month. Following from Marc Berman of the New York Post:
According to a source, Anthony has informed U.S. Olympic Team officials he will attend the Aug. 11-13 minicamp as the team gears up for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Anthony is still rehabbing from February’s left-knee surgery so he will not be a fully active participant, according to a source. Team USA CEO Jerry Colangelo has encouraged roster members to come to the minicamp even if they can’t play due to injury.
The mini-camp will last three days in Las Vegas from August 11th-13th. Knicks fans may be worried but there’s no reason for concern. Anthony seems to be doing excellent with his rehab and should be at 100% by the start of the season, whether he attends the camp or not. Anthony is one of the most iconic Team USA players, right up there with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. He already has two gold medals from 2008 and 2012.
If anything this is a good sign for New York. It shows he’s comfortable with his current health and should be ready for training camp and the start of next season. The Knicks are trying to get into the playoff picture and obviously need their best player to make that happen. They’ve had a good offseason and look to bring some excitement back to New York basketball after a rough last year.
