The Cannes Official Selection Lineup has always been a heavily protected secret in the months leading up to the film festival. Last month, we learned that Woody Allen’s Cafe Society would be opening the event. Now, at last, festival president Pierre Lescure has unveiled the full list of this year’s 49 competitors.
According to Variety, 28 countries will be participating in the festival, with a strong showing for Romania and France. Surprisingly, Italy is not being represented at all in the lineup. Artistic Director Thierry Fremaux had this to say on the matter:
“Italy is close to our heart, as this year’s Cannes poster demonstrates!”
