According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the pick the Hawks will receive has a top 18 protection for the 2022 NBA Draft, top 16 for 2023 and top 14 for 2024 and 2025. If by that time the pick has not conveyed it turns into a 2026 and a 2027 second-round pick.
The Hawks, currently are above the salary cap, and with extensions kicking next season, giving Reddish a contract extension would put them even more deep into the tax level. With the trade, the former 10th pick of the 2019 Draft will have a chance to negotiate an extension in the offseason, he will also reunite with his former teammate in Duke RJ Barrett.
As for Kevin Knox, he gets a very needed change of scenery and a chance of earning a second contract in his professional career. With the Knicks, he went from a solid rookie campaign with averages of 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game to barely playing in the current season.
Knox has played only 55 games combined in the last two seasons and his averages went down to 3.8 points in 10.5 minutes per game.
