Kansas Jayhawks surprise star center, Joel Embiid, has suffered an injury to his right foot as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
With questions already about Embiid’s durability going into the draft, due to back problems forcing Embiid to miss the Big 12 tournament and NCAA tournament, this news of a foot injury which is reported to possibly be a broken foot is not good for the 7-foot native of Cameroon and his team.
“He suffered a foot injury to his right foot, sometime over the last few days,” Super-agent Arn Tellem told ESPN’s Andy Katz on Thursday by phone. “He’s getting evaluated from various doctors and experts in the field. We’ll know more Friday.”
Early predictions have Embiid falling fast with only a week to go for the draft. This injury news could effect not only the draft order but any teams possible ideas for getting Kevin Love with one of those top 3 picks considering the top big man in the draft now seems to have a serious foot injury.
Embiid has already worked out for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who hold the #1 overall pick and had a positive medical test with the team. Embiid participated in 1-on-0 workouts in front of NBA teams earlier this summer. He was scheduled to work out with the Milwaukee Bucks later on this week.
Embiid averaged 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in his freshman season at Kansas. Cleveland has options with that number one pick, but it seems that it won’t be Embiid who is now projected by ESPN’s Bill Simmons to possibly drop out of the top 5.
