Ralph Breaks The Internet won the holiday box office, opening to $55 million domestically. Internationally it didn’t fare as well, adding around $30 million to its weekend haul. The John C. Reilly led sequel has received mostly positive reviews as it tackles surprisingly mature issues such as internet privacy.
Coming in second place this week, Creed II opened to $35 million, an improvement on the first’s $29 million opening. Another $20 million was added internationally, pushing its total to $55 million worldwide. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive for the sequel, almost guaranteeing that this won’t be the last we see of the Rocky franchise.
The Grinch continued a strong run into the holiday season this week with $30 million. That pushes its total box office draw to just over $180 million, nearly doubling it’s $75 million budget. It’s safe to assume that as the Christmas season kicks into gear, The Grinch‘s box office total will only continue to rise.
In fourth, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald earned a respectable $29.6 million to push its total over $115 million. Rounding out the top five, Bohemian Rhapsody added $13.8 million to its total draw, which is now over $150 million.
Outside the top five, Robin Hood disappointed in its opening, earning only $9.1 million over the weekend. On the other end of the spectrum, A Star Is Born refuses to go away. After an extended run totaling over $185 million since its October release, the Bradley Cooper-led film squeaked into the top ten this week with another $3 million, putting its total haul just over $190 million.
