‘Ender’s Game’ claimed the top spot at the box office this weekend by pulling in an estimated $28 million. The film will need some strong Usain Bolt like legs in order to make up it’s $110 million budget. The film has had some recent controversy when the author of the ‘Ender’s Game’ series, Orson Scott Card made some anti-gay remarks.
Don’t throw ‘Bad Grandpa’ in the retirement home just yet because the hidden camera comedy earned another $20 million in its second week which brings its 10-day total to $62.1 million.
‘Last Vegas’ slides into the third place spot by earning $16.7 million. The star studded film hopes to have a steady pace throughout the month as older audiences rarely flock to theaters to see a film it’s opening weekend.
The animated kids flick ‘Free Birds’ roosted in the fourth place spot by bringing in $16.2 million.
Rounding out the top five is the critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller ‘Gravity’ which earned another $13.1 million over the weekend.
‘Ender’s Game’ won’t last another week at the top as ‘Thor: The Dark World’ takes over theaters on Thursday night.
